I Don't Know How She Does It

I Don’t Know How She Does It?

Since the movie was released, I was hesitant on watching it up because in my mind, I say “you just do”.  Finally, I ended up watching the movie and for Hollywood purposes, it was humorous and a little close…but not quite.  Kate is the main character and she tries to balance everything from a full-time job, kids, a promotion and even a somewhat an indecent proposal situation.  However, her lifestyle and the environment is definitely different from my day-to-day #struggle. A critic wonderfully stated “It purports to be about the difficult choices of modern motherhood, but it's too prim and cautious a movie to dip a pedicured toe into the murky waters of real choice.”

I get asked this question every day, “I don’t know how you do it?”  Here’s my response “I have plans and sometimes I have change of plans, I have to be flexible.”

Balance is key and not spreading yourself too thin. NOT being everything to everyone and being flexible if things fall apart are so important. Not to mention if you don’t have the resources or help available to accomplish something in the day, don’t feel bad.

As women, we constantly beat ourselves up when the plan fails and we feel defeated, deflated or ashamed (guilty!).  As much as I’ve missed out on AMAZING opportunities both career and personal...I wouldn’t trade it for my life now and family.

I try to be a complete person rather than an “everything” person, because the person that would need saving is me.

I believe in having a balance and set limits, this means:

  • Surrounding myself around the people and things I love

  • Limiting the things I can/cannot do

  • Showing up when I am needed the most

  • Create margins of time between appointments, you need to recharge some how

  • Plan your next day before the sun sets. *This is so imperative to me because I like opening my planner and seeing the day ahead rather than day running me.

We (as woman) try to stay afloat and try to be omnipresent but we have the ability not to be at multiple places and to say “no”. Don’t stress yourself out and go after what matters most to you!

I’d love to hear the things you do to organize or prep yourself each day, comment below.

Sincerely,
